WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – May 28, 2015 – Iowa Farm Bureau and the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) will hold three informational sessions in June designed to help livestock farmers by providing new strategies and resources for starting or growing a livestock operation.
The “Growing Iowa’s Livestock: What Farmers Need to Know” sessions kick off in Cherokee on June 22, move to Calmar on June 23 and conclude on June 24 in Anamosa. Each of the sessions will start with registration at 9:30 a.m. and will adjourn by 2:00 p.m.
Speakers for the livestock meetings include: Steve Meyer of Paragon Economics, who will discuss the livestock market outlook; Tim Meyer of Producers Credit Corporation, who will cover risk management; and Moe Russell of Russell Consulting Group, who will discuss livestock returns and management strategies.
In addition, Brian Waddingham, executive director of CSIF, will explore the issues surrounding starting or growing a livestock farm today. Iowa State University Extension specialists will also attend to help answer detailed questions and provide additional information.
“Whether you’re a beginning farmer with interest in livestock, a crop farmer looking at incorporating livestock into your current operation, or an experienced livestock farmer interested in growing your operation, critical information impacting today’s livestock production will be shared,” said IFBF Commodity Services Manager Ed Kordick. “Livestock is important to the overall success of Iowa agriculture and we want to make sure that farmers have access to the resources they need to successfully manage changes to their operations.”
Registration for the Farm Bureau livestock information sessions is $10 in advance or $20 at the door. Lunch will be provided. For specific locations, meeting agenda, and to register, go to www.iowafarmbureau.com and click the banner on the homepage.
