01-09-2017 in Awards
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – January 9, 2017 –The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award recognizes Iowa livestock farmers who take pride in doing things right. To celebrate responsible livestock farming, the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) is announcing a call for Good Farm Neighbor award nominations through March 1, 2017.
“We invite all Iowans to acknowledge their farm neighbors by nominating them for this prestigious award,” said Brian Waddingham, CSIF executive director. “Many farm families demonstrate a strong commitment to their land, their livestock and their communities, and we believe it is important to highlight their success stories.”
Since 2003, the Good Farm Neighbor award has been presented to 119 Iowa farm families who are active in their communities, and go above and beyond as environmental stewards and animal caretakers.“Iowa’s 88,637 farms support a healthy and productive livestock industry,” Waddingham said. “The Good Farm Neighbor award is a reflection of responsible livestock farming.”
Iowan’s may submit their award nominations by filling out the recommendation form available at www.supportfarmers.com/goodfarmneighbor.
The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award is presented by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and Iowa Ag Radio Network, and is made possible by the financial support of the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers. The award is named in memory of Gary Wergin, a long-time WHO Radio farm broadcaster who created the award.
The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers was created by farmers to help farmers raise livestock successfully and responsibly. It’s a joint partnership involving the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Egg Council, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and Midwest Dairy Association.
The non-profit, non-partisan organization provides assistance to farmers at no cost. CSIF does not lobby or develop policy. Farm families wanting a helping hand can contact the coalition at 1-800-932-2436.
