CSIF Launches Second Annual “Farming is a Family Affair” Photo Contest
07-01-2015 in Livestock
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – July 1, 2015 – The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers (CSIF) kicked off their second annual “Farming is a Family Affair” photo contest today in celebration of Iowa’s dedicated farm families.
The contest will run from July 1 to August 1 and will be administered through the CSIF Facebook page. The top three photos with the most ‘likes’ will receive a day package to the Iowa State Fair including admission tickets, parking pass and food coupons.
“Many Iowans may not know that 98 percent of Iowa’s farms are family owned and that the average farm size is 345 acres. Our goal with this contest is to bring greater understanding about Iowa’s family farms while celebrating their rich legacy,” said Brian Waddingham, CSIF executive director. “Agriculture is a driving force in Iowa, with one in five Iowans going to work because of ag. We invite all Iowans to participate in the contest and help us celebrate this important industry.”
Participants may submit their favorite farm family photo by emailing hbanwart@supportfarmers.com. Entrants must be Iowa residents. Photo submissions will be posted on CSIF’s Facebook page where Iowans can cast their vote by ‘liking’ their favorite photo.
“The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers is committed to helping Iowa’s farm families carry on the tradition of raising livestock successfully and responsibly as stewards of the land,” Waddingham said. “The 2015 photo contest aims to showcase the hard work and pride of Iowa’s farm families across all ninety-nine counties in the state.”
CSIF is a non-profit, non-lobbying organization that assists livestock farmers who want help interpreting rules and regulations, guidance on identifying good site locations for barns, counsel on enhancing neighbor relations and tips on how to protect the environment at no cost. This positive, solutions-based approach to helping livestock farmers grow is a collaborative effort involving the Iowa Cattleman’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Farm Bureau, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and the Midwest Dairy Association.
